How to Prepare
Preparing for your Vasectomy
- Discontinue any aspirin or NSAIDs (ibuprofen, advil, motrin, naproxen, or aleve) for 1 week prior to your vasectomy. You may use acetaminophen (Tylenol) as a pain reliever in this week.
- Thoroughly wash the scrotum on the day of your procedure.
- Shave the front of the scrotum on the morning of your vasectomy.
- Bring a pair of tight fitting underwear (briefs or an athletic supporter) to use after the procedure.
- Prepare two ice packs at home for use after the vasectomy. Bags of frozen peas work well.
- Have a normal breakfast or lunch prior to your procedure.
- Take 1000mg of acetaminophen (2 tablets of extra strength Tylenol) 2 hours prior to your procedure.
- Bring your favorite music and headphones for your smartphone.
- Relax. The procedure will be much easier than you are expecting.
